Heckler & Koch pioneered the polymer-framed
pistol, but the VP series is the company’s first
striker-fired pistol since the renowned
P7-series pistols were introduced in the 1980s.
Based largely on the hammer-fired P30 pistol,
the VP9 breaks new ground with its enhanced
light-pull trigger. HK claims that this trigger
surpasses those found on competitors—and it is
one of the better out-of-the-box triggers I’ve
shoots the Heckler & Koch VP9.
The VP9 uses HK’s ergonomic handgun grip design
that includes three changeable backstraps and
six side panels, accommodating all hand sizes.
All controls are completely ambidextrous. Slide
releases are present on both sides of the frame
and the paddle-style magazine release can be
easily activated by left- or right-handed
The VP9 uses the proven P30 steel magazine. This
version includes two 15-round magazines. Though
somewhat expensive and difficult to come by at this
time, DGS has spares for sale at $40 each.
